About Organic

At Moosewood®, we care about the same things that are important to you...

...the health of your family, the purity of the water you drink, and the air you breathe. These are important to us too. We care about the condition of the planet we leave behind for future generations. By supporting and advocating the expansion of organic farming practices, we believe that we are contributing to a healthy, sustainable future for our children and grandchildren. We also feel strongly that companies, as well as individuals, must assume their share of responsibility as stewards of the planet. That's why we do what we do.

By definition, organically grown foods are produced without environmentally harmful chemicals that may contaminate soil, air, and groundwater. By farming this way, organic farmers honor the fragile complexity of our ecosystem, and protect the health of those who work the land as well as the well being of consumers who buy organic products. However, we should note here that the effects of most pesticides on the immune systems of infants and children, as well as the cumulative effects of their use, is still unknown.

When we support organic agriculture, we ensure the continual replenishment of healthy, fertile topsoil, rich with biological matter and biological diversity. By avoiding the use of toxic pesticides, herbicides, and fumigants, organic farmers also avoid many of the unintended consequences of conventional farming - the creation of ever more resistant strains of plant and insect pests. Rather, sustainable organic practices strive to create a balanced, harmonious ecosystem that uses beneficial insect populations and preserves a variety of plant and animal species. It is a world of healthy diversity and beauty that we want to leave to our children.
